Beth Feldman

Helen Casteel

14060 Ladue Road
Chesterfield 63017

I have been a resident of Parkway since 1990. My husband and I have two children who attend Central Middle. I have been active in classrooms, school leadership and as a volunteer at the district level. I was appointed to serve on the Parkway Board of Education on June 30, 2008.

I grew up in St. Louis and attended Clayton High. I received my BA in French from the University of Wisconsin. I worked as a buyer for a large retail enterprise, and over the last 20 years, I have worked full and part-time as a paralegal, for a law firm and in a corporate environment.

I serve on Parkway's Government Relations Committee and recently completed a two-year term as co-chair of the Parkway Leadership Council (2006-2008). I was president of the Green Trails PTO in 2005-2006 and served as an officer for several years. In November, 2008, I served as the PTO/Community Outreach co-chair for the Prop S bond issue campaign and in 2006, I served as an Area Leader in the Prop R tax initiative campaign. I also enjoyed serving as a parent representative on the Parkway Curriculum Council. www.bethfeldmanforparkway.com

13276 Windygate Lane
St. Louis 63146

I have been a Parkway resident for 23 years, and involved in education for 40 years.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and my Masters Degree in Counseling from UMSL. I have taught in public and private schools as well as supervised teachers-in-training through UMSL.

Other career experiences include banking, insurance, and real estate.

Walter (a union carpenter) and I have been married for twenty-four years. We have two sons: Matthew attended Parkway North, and will graduate from Drake University with a BFA in Directing. Adam is a senior at Parkway North, and president of his local Thespian Society.

Throughout our years in Parkway we have volunteered our skills and served the community through various committees and projects.

My "downtime" includes: travel, camping, photography, free-lance writing, bowling, attending St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games, and trivia.

Serving on the Parkway School Board has been the ultimate community service experience. If the primary purpose of public education is to prepare and motivate students to participate effectively as citizens in our society, then I hope to further strengthen this goal by continuing to serve on the Parkway School Board.

The Parkway School District is currently engaged in a long-range planning initiative focused on three primary issues: increasing academic achievement and engagement, increasing student success and creating 21st century learning. As a Parkway Board member, I would use my 31 years of teaching experience to help the district develop the means and methods to achieve these goals.

I was privileged to teach for over 25 years in the Ladue School District. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to work with, nurture and develop the innate talents of thousands of students. I understand the educational process, and can bring to the Parkway Board of Education my experience of working with highly motivated, bright children who need to be challenged to reach beyond standard academic measures to realize their full potential.

As a Parkway Board member, I will encourage the district to explore how we can re-shape the classroom and leverage technology in order to shift our focus from teaching to learning. This gives us our best chance to raise academic achievement for all students.

President Obama challenged all Americans to become engaged in a new era of responsibility. I believe our greatest responsibility is to our children, our future.
