The Parkway Area Adult Education and Literacy/English as a Second Language Program has been in existence since 1969.  We are funded with federal and state monies.  The Missouri State Board of Education is responsible for administering our program in cooperation with the local school districts we serve.  We have permission to offer classes in the following school districts: Parkway, Pattonville, Clayton, Ladue, Brentwood, Hazelwood and Maplewood-Richmond Heights.  However, students do not have to be residents of any of these districts in order to enroll in any of our classes.  In fiscal year 2011, the Parkway Area Program served almost 2,500 adult students, almost half of whom were ESL adults.

Parkway is designated as a STAR Program from the Continuous Quality Improvement review conducted by the Missouri Adult Education and Literacy Section during the fiscal year 2011.The Parkway Area AEL program received the U.S. Secretary of Education's Award for Outstanding Adult Education and Literacy Programs in 1992 and the 1993 Missouri Association for Adult Continuing and Community Education Award of Merit for demonstrating the greatest progress in promoting and developing the concept of adult, continuing and community education.
